Exercise 2, portrait lighting.

For this weeks lesson, we were introduced to broad and short lighting and how it can effect the shape of the face, we were also introduce to back lighting and illuminating the backdrop to highlight and separate the subject from the background.

Examples of broad lighting.

Broad lighting is created when the subject faces away from the key light, exposing the jawline and creating width to the subjects's face.

Examples of short lighting.

Short lighting works almost oposite to broad lighting; when the subject faces the light, it casts a shadow on the subjects jawline, creating a more narrow appearance.

Example of backlighting and illuminated backdrops.
